YORK artist Lesley Birch is holding a solo show at The White Room, the downstairs gallery at Priestley’s At No 36, in Bootham, York, until March 29.
“The exhibition is entitled March Into Spring and I’m essentially celebrating the end of winter,” says Scottish-born Lesley, who paints from memory, imagination and on location. “I’m showing a body of work exploring texture and colour to express atmosphere. In fact, the whole atmosphere of the show is very peaceful and calm.”
The works cover both painting and printmaking, as well as educational explanations about how Lesley makes her prints.
“I also have sketchbooks on display to show the artistic mind at work,” she says. “I’ve had a few visits from A-Level pupils who are looking at my work for their contextual studies. All very flattering, I must say.”
After March Into Spring, Lesley will be taking time out to produce a new body of work in mixed media using earth pigments. “I’m very excited about this next project,” she says. Watch this space.
