DOROTHY Bradford may be new to Kentmere House Gallery in York, but she can hardly be described as new to the art world: she is in her late eighties and has been an artist all her life.
Her work centres on movement in the human figure, much of it involving musicians and dancers, and she has worked with some of Britain's leading orchestras.
In common with all artists at Kentmere House, Dorothy is known to gallery owner Ann Petherick, who met her at her Cheshire home last year.
"I was amazed by her talent and energy and her absolute dedication to her work. She is still painting and drawing every day and her maxim is: 'never go to bed without having done a drawing', " says Ann.
A former resident of Ilkley, Dorothy was involved in setting up the Manor House Gallery in the West Yorkshire town in the 1960s, now run by Bradford City Council.
Paintings & Drawings by Dorothy Bradford will run at Kentmere House Gallery, Scarcroft Hill, York, from February 3 to March 29.
Opening hours are: every Thursday evening, 6pm to 9pm; the first weekend of each month, 11am to 5pm each day; any other time by arrangement on 01904 656507.
