David Greenwood turns thoughts to summer in Painting The Sun, his exhibition of new work at Kentmere House Gallery, York.

"The strong sun of southern Europe, found in Naples and the Ligurian coast, suits Greenwood's exceptional use of colour and his energetic style gives new excitement to the landscapes and buildings of that region," says gallery owner Ann Petherick.

"As always, the work is balanced between realism and abstraction, enabling us to see familiar views in a new way. Meanwhile, his paintings of Venice manage to give a fresh slant to that city, avoiding the clichés so often found."

Greenwood works in oil pastel, with occasional touches of lustre pastel to emphasise details, and his works sell for £400 to £750. His reputation continues to grow and will be boosted further by his first exhibition in Scotland next month.

Painting The Sun will run from tomorrow until May 24 at Kentmere House Gallery, Scarcroft Hill. Opening hours are 11am to 5pm this weekend and on May 5 and 6; 6pm to 9pm every Thursday evening; and any other time by arrangement on 01904 656507.
