STROLL along Goodramgate tomorrow afternoon, and you may well stop in your tracks outside ArtEstee.

“I’ve organised to have a life-drawing session from 1pm to 3pm,” reveals gallery and café owner Estee Roberts. “A model will come and lie half nude in the front window of the shop; she’ll be positioned facing inwards into the shop with a sheet placed over her, baring her back to the world!”

So, rather than window dressing, here is a case of window undressing in York. “I thought this would be a great way to get the public in. They can come and watch a nude model being painted and sketched in the front display and meet the artists, who each have work on show here – so it’ll help the artists promote their work too,” says Estee.

Positive feedback from customers and artists alike to ArtEstee’s open studio sessions prompted her to set up this weekend’s event. “I’ve been running them every Tuesday with artists such as Andy Q and Magdalena Brieger; the public really seem to enjoy watching how they apply their thoughts, inspiration and imagination to the canvas, as well as having the opportunity to meet them directly,” she says.

Everyone is welcome to watch tomorrow afternoon. “I want the public to discover life drawing in a new light, experiencing, understanding and appreciating the naked body and how the artists capture the naked body,” says Estee, who found the model for tomorrow through Andy Q. “I hope to have more events like this in the near future.”
