RYEDALE photographers Richard and Janet Burdon are holding their monochromatic exhibition Beyond The Pale at The Backo’theshop Gallery and Café in Terrington from this weekend.

Tonight’s preview will be a chance to meet the artists ahead of the show’s run from tomorrow until August 27.

Richard and his wife, Janet, set up RJB Photographic in 2006 to market their work and their latest photographs mark a progression from their past output.

“After years of colour work, we’ve discovered an interest in monochrome photography and find that monochrome has given us a new direction and enthusiasm for our photography,” says Richard.

“We specialise in similar but subtly different styles of photography which includes a mixture of colour and monochrome landscape photographs, plus a selection of creative images of the natural world, which express each photographer’s artistic impression of their subject.”

All the images on display were captured in adverse conditions with limited visibility; they are as captured by the camera and have been subjected to minimal post-production work on the computer.

“From time to time, we all say ‘I can’t see the wood for the trees’, but can we really see?” asks Janet. “We live in a beautiful land, but few of us rarely actually see and appreciate this beauty.

This exhibition is dedicated to the art within the landscape that is all around us every day and celebrates the simple beauty of trees in winter. For us the stark simplicity of a lone tree in a field of snow is a work of art itself.”

The Backo’theshop is open 10am to 4pm, Tuesday to Saturday. Further images of Richard and Janet’s work can be seen on their website, rjbphotographic.co.uk
