THE mysteries, beauty and nature of North Yorkshire’s moors and coast can be discovered through the eyes of artists Gail Hurst, Sue Morton, Jayne Hibell and Jennifer Tetlow, who will be exhibiting at the Inspired By…Gallery, Danby, from August 25 to September 6.
They all live and work in the area and have created work directly inspired by their locality for a show entitled A Sense Of Place that shares their enjoyment of living where they do, each expressing what they see in different ways, but all celebrating what they find.
Gail Hurst and Sue Morton contribute the paintings. Gail likes working outdoors and is moved by the brooding vastness of the moors, the dramatic coastline, and the impact of seasonal and atmospheric changes on sea and landscape painters. Sue portrays the distinctive character of coastal villages and the interplay of traditional structures within beautiful wild landscapes.
Glass artist Jayne Hibell depicts nature and scenes from moorland life, captured in rich, reflective and translucent glass, casting light beams that reflect the colours of her surroundings. Jennifer Tetlow sculpts birds and animals in stone, capturing naturalistically the wildlife she sees close to her workshop and carving tactile, lively pieces full of expression and character The Inspired By…Gallery at the Moors Visitor Centre in Danby is open daily from 10am to 5pm. The artists will demonstrate and discuss their work during the exhibition run and will attend a Meet The Artists session from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday, August 27.
