YORK composer and pianist Kieran White will accompany the February 1 screening of Buster Keaton’s 1926 silent comedy The General with his amusing, dramatic score at Helmsley Arts Centre.
Kieran will be playing the arts centre’s own Steinway piano as he brings Keaton’s American Civil War tale to life with a soundtrack that highlights every visual gag with 70 musical quotes and puns from Wagner to The Doors, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture to The Teddy Bear’s Picnic.
Keaton is at his comic, gymnastic peak as he risks everything in pursuit of his treasured railway engine after it is commandeered by Northern spies.
• The 7.30pm screening will be presented by Breaking The Silents and tickets can be booked on 01439 771700 or online at helmsleyarts.co.uk
