Peter Jackson’s Braindead (18) is the second film to be selected for the new late-night horror showcase run by the website Still Raising Hell in tandem with City Screen, York.

Looking forward to tomorrow’s 11.15pm screening at City Screen, marketing manager Dave Taylor says: “Braindead is a comedic gore-fest from 1992 and far removed from Jackson’s later Oscar-winning Lord Of The Rings epics. However, many horror fans still claim it’s one of his best works.”

Event organiser Lisha Blackhurst, a film and English student at York St John University, invites cinemagoers to send in their reviews of Braindead after the screening. “This time I want a mere 500 words of your painstakingly etched thoughts on Jackson’s transition from his splatter classics to his epic Hollywood productions, and whether this has been a notable progression or a sell-out,” she says.

More details can be found at stillraisinghell.com. Professor Andrew Tudor, head of the film, theatre and television department at the University of York, will pick the best review to be published online and the winner will receive a number of horror-themed prizes too.

The horror-movie club at City Screen began on May 1 with Brian De Palma’s Carrie, the gothic teen movie voted the best horror flick of all time in a website poll conducted on stillraisinghell.com

Braindead came second, followed by The Thing, Aliens and The Hunger.
