THE Late Night Horror Club at City Screen, York, will continue with Tom Holland’s 1988 killer doll movie Child’s Play (18) on July 24 at 11.15pm.

“York Goth Festival, DV8, being on this weekend, we decided to delay Child’s Play so it wouldn’t clash with the music festival,” says Dave Taylor, City Screen’s marketing manager.

“There’s such an obvious cross-over between the traditions of Goth music and horror in the movies.”

Cabbage-patch doll Chucky makes his debut in Holland’s film, the third to be shown in conjunction with Still Raising Hell, a cult website and brand created by York St John student Lisha Blackhurst.

“Child’s Play is an Eighties’ cult classic selected for the Horror Club by visitors to the website,” says Lisha, who organises the nocturnal screenings.

“The film shows the primal fear that people have of dolls, especially on the odd occasion when they spring to life, possessed by the soul of a serial killer.”
