GABE Ibanez’s Spanish film Hierro (12A) will be the Sunday Special show at City Screen this weekend.
Named after the island to which Maria and her five-year-old son Diego are travelling by ferry when the boy disappears, Hierro is a reality-blurring study of a mother’s consuming grief and eventual madness.
Six months after Diego vanishes, Maria returns to El Hierro and sees – or thinks she sees – her son playing on the beach. As she travels along the terrible path that will lead to her son, ultimately she will make the most unbearable discovery of all: some mysteries are better left never revealed.
Tickets for Sunday’s 8pm screening can be booked on 0871 902 5726.
