SUNDAY’S Picturehouse Docs film at City Screen, York, is Benda Bilili! (PG), Renaud Barret and Florent de La Tullaye’s documentary account of the remarkable rise of the Congolese band Staff Benda Bilili.
Their fairytale journey has taken them the streets of Kinshasha to international stardom and WOMAD sensations.
All but one of the band members are paraplegic, riding on customised Mad Max-style tricycles as they sing of life on the streets, suffering from polio and sleeping on cardboard.
Their uplifting story will unfold on screen at 8pm on Sunday.
