PETULA Clark will make her York Barbican debut on October 6 on her first British tour in five years.

The 80-year-old Epsom singer, actress and composer with the seven-decade career will be promoting her new studio album, Lost In You at her ten dates, as well as performing such favourites as her signature hit Downtown, Colour My World, I Know A Place and Don’t Sleep In the Subway.

Released through Sony Music on February 25, the album’s 12 tracks include a new re-imagining of Downtown, a cover of Gnarls Barkley’s chart-topping Crazy and the first single, Cut Copy Me.

Further highlights are a touching rendition of her late friend Elvis Presley’s Love Me Tender and a fresh take on John Lennon’s Imagine, Lennon having once cited her as one of his favourite singers.

Petula cut her first record in 1949 and has since sold more than 68 million records worldwide. She has worked with Dean Martin, Peggy Lee, Serge Gainsbourg, Tom Jones, The Carpenters, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand and Paolo Nutini, and starred in more than 30 films, most notably her Golden Globe-nominated role opposite Fred Astaire in Finian’s Rainbow, and Goodbye Mr Chips opposite Peter O’Toole.

She last played York on The Ultimate Tour at the Grand Opera House in May 2002. Tickets for the only Yorkshire show on her An Evening With Petula Clark tour go on sale at £19.50 to £45 at 10am tomorrow on 0844 854 2757 and yorkbarbican.co.uk

Alternatively, you can buy them in person from the Barbican box office, open Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm.
