Twelve months ago you’d be forgiven for saying Rita who? Fast forward to today and you couldn’t fail to hear one of Rita Ora’s tracks on the radio.

Enclosed in a transparent box covered in nuclear warning signs and dressed in what can only be described as a ‘toxic’ wedding dress, Rita Ora kicked off the York leg of her Radioactive tour with the her current single of the same name.

After addressing the crowd for the first time she said she’d never performed in York before and was really looking forward to it as she’d heard stories that York knew how to party. This led to the track that changed her life, Hot Right Now, a collaboration with DJ Fresh (not present on the night).

She then made her way through tracks from her number one debut album, among them Facemelt; Hi, Hello, Goodbye; Shine Ya Light; Fall In Love and her new upbeat collaboration with will.i.am (again not present!), Roc The Life Half way through, she slowed down the tempo with an acoustic cover of Outkast’s Hey Ya! and serenaded a lucky – and very excited – member of the audience.

She went on to explain why she loves music and what influenced her, mainly The Notorious B.I.G, who inspired her infectious hit How We Do (Party).

After numerous outfit changes, she ended the night with her debut and probably biggest hit RIP.

I admit I wasn’t really a fan before, but this fantastic show has converted me. The only downside was the lighting, which was more fit for a rave. At times I couldn’t see the stage, but that might be just my old eyes!
