AS someone who was fortunate enough to be brought into this world by a woman with impeccable taste in music, it was always inevitable that Fleetwood Mac would take a lifelong place in my heart.
My dream was always to see the real thing, but since they seem to have misplaced their reason and logic in later years by producing ticket prices which can only be described as astronomical, I thought I would give the Mick Fleetwood-endorsed tribute Rumours Of Fleetwood Mac my heart for the evening.
Some would call this second-best, second-hand news maybe? But after what can only be described as a masterfully executed, fervent and exhilarating performance of the legendary 1977 album Rumours, plus a few welcome extras, I felt like I had beaten the ticket touts to a front-row seat for the real thing.
Of course, a tribute will never strike quite the same chord, but my, oh my, did these guys know their stuff.
Rumours Of Fleetwood Mac, most of whom have been playing together for 14 years, had it down to the very last note.
The accomplished and soulful licks of Ben Hughes’s Danny Kirwan-style guitar; the sweet, passionate, and extremely Stevie Nicks-like tones from Louise Rogan; the whole band presented us with a two-hour set of technically perfect and passionately executed music.
Looking and sounding like one of the best-loved bands in the world must take some doing, but it seemed to come naturally to these exceptionally talented musicians. Brilliant stuff.
