SIX early Noughties pop groups from ITV2’s The Big Reunion will play the Popfest 2013 summer party at Castle Howard on Sunday, August 18 – and there could yet be more additions.
5ive, Blue, Atomic Kitten, 911, B’witched and The Honeyz have been confirmed for the open-air concert, staged in association with The Press. The promoters have vowed to secure the rest of the line-up from the ITV2 documentary series, which also featured and Liberty X.
Rob McIntosh, of MA Concerts, says: “We’ve promoted concerts at Castle Howard for 13 of the 23 years that shows have gone on there and this promises to be one the most spectacular evenings of great Noughties bands ever produced.”
5ive, who split in 2001 after 11 Top ten singles, have reunited specifically for The Big Reunion series, which began airing in late January.
Blue band members Lee Ryan, Antony Costa, Duncan James and Simon Webbe, who formed 13 years ago, will be on the road this year with a full schedule that includes an arena tour in September. They represented the United Kingdom in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest and are to release their first studio album in ten years, Roulette, this year.
After a 12-year gap, founder member Kerry Katona has rejoined fellow original Kittens Liz McClarnon and Natasha Hamilton in Atomic Kitten to perform the likes of Right Now, See Ya and I Want Your Love once more. They will be undertaking a UK arena tour next month.
911 first formed in 1995 with a line-up of Jimmy Constable and Spike Dawbarn, originally two dancers from The Hit Man And Her late-night TV show, and Lee Brennan. They enjoyed a run of ten Top Ten hits in the 1990s, including More Than A Woman, Bodyshakin and the chart-topping A Little Bit More, before announcing their split live on Chris Moyles’s BBC Radio 1 show in February 2000.
Their 2013 renaissance will continue with a new version of Bodyshakin, set for release in the summer on All Around the World/Universal Records.
Irish group B*Witched were active between 1998 and 2002, releasing two albums and eight singles – the first four all going to number one – with a line-up of twin sisters Edele and Keavy Lynch, Sinéad O’Carroll and Lindsay Armaou. In 2007 they performed at the Battle Of The Pop Bands concert, which brought together pop acts from late 1990s and early 2000s.
Tickets are available online at maconcerts.co.uk and ticketline.co.uk and on 0844 888 9991. Watch this space for more announcements on the Popfest 2013 line-up.
On August 18, car parks will be open from 2pm; gates from 4pm; and the first band will be on stage no later than 5pm.
