AFTER scraping off the last Bramham Park mud, glorious mud from their wellies, Leeds Festival revellers can turn their thoughts to next year’s three-day event.

They have the chance to plan ahead, now that the first tickets for 2014 are on sale for a limited period at 2013 prices with no booking fee. On sale are a limited number of Weekend and Early Entry tickets.

Reflecting on the success of a 2013 festival that defied the trench conditions under foot, managing director Melvin Benn said: “I knew 2013 was always going to be a great year with the new stages, the new branding across the site and Friday’s sold-out crowd, but it exceeded my expectations.

“I was blown away by Biffy Clyro’s first Leeds headline set; it was great seeing Eminem and System Of A Down back at the festival thrilling the crowds after such a long time; and after their surprise set last year, Green Day were back where they belonged on the Main Stage. Thank you to all the fans who came along and made this weekend one to remember. I hope to see you again in 2014.”

Saturday’s headliners, Green Day, paid tribute to The Who’s legendary Live At Leeds album, as well as performing their own 1994 album Dookie in its entirety. “This is the best festival in the world,” said front-man Billie Joe Armstrong.

The American festival favourites pulled several people out from the crowd to join them on stage, with one lucky person impressing Billie Joe so much that he was invited backstage to hang out after the show.

Elsewhere, in the biggest production ever to have filled the NME/Radio 1 Stage, Skrillex indulged in a five-minute countdown that culminated in the unveiling of his X-Wing fighter-inspired spacecraft stage set on the Saturday.

Chase & Status, Phoenix, Alt-J and Azealia Banks all cut the mustard at a festival that saw the addition of the BBC Radio 1 Dance Stage and BBC Radio 1Xtra Stage. Sub Focus, Magnetic Man and Knife Party led the charge and Wiley, Devlin and Wretch 32 made their mark too.

Crystal Fighters and The Strypes pulled big crowds on the Festival Republic Stage; Imagine Dragons, Tame Impala and Disclosure took the honours on the NME/Radio1 Stage; the Shikari Sound System was unveiled on the new Rock Stage; and Alkaline Trio and Tomahawk headlined the Lock Up Stage.
