YOU have seen her busking by the fountain in Parliament Street; you have seen and heard her voice turning Ricky Wilson and Kylie Minogue’s chairs in the blind auditions on BBC1 talent show The Voice; and you may also have seen her supporting Shed Seven in December.
Now teenage York singer-songwriter Beth McCarthy is bringing her acoustic guitar and hat to The Duchess in her home city tomorrow for a headline show.
Taking her influences from Ed Sheeran, Gabrielle Aplin, Taylor Swift and the lyrical styling of The Script, Beth adds a slight country twang to acoustic pop, as heard on her first single, Hero, in 2012 and her Northern Light EP last year.
Beth, 16, from Rawcliffe, is a former Mount School pupil now studying an Access to Music course in York. Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson will be mentoring her on The Voice.
Tomorrow she will be joined by Fool’s Mate, Toby Burras, Two Reasons Why and Just Alam on the 7.30pm bill at The Duchess. Box office: 08444 771000 or on the door.
