THE tribute show Roy Orbison And Friends celebrates the music of The Big O at the Grand Opera House, York, on February 15.
Tickets for the 7.30pm performance are on sale on 0844 871 3024 and at atgtickets.com. Courtesy of the Cumberland Street theatre, What’s On has two pairs to be won.
Barry Steele’s “all live spectacular multi-media tribute” to Orbison encompasses the Texan singer’s biggest hits from the Sixties through to his late-Eighties’ renaissance with the Traveling Wilburys.
The show combines original film with footage from the Orbison era, backed by Steele’s band as he brings the life, character and soaring vocals of Roy Orbison back to the centre stage, dressed in Orbison black, finished off with his trademark dark-rimmed glasses.
The “Friends” part of the title refers to “special guest star tributes” to Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis.
• Competition question:
Which song gave Roy Orbison his first British number one in 1960?
Send your answer with your name, address and daytime phone number, on a postcard, to Charles Hutchinson, Roy Competition, The Press, 76-86 Walmgate, York, YO1 9YN, or by email to charles.hutchinson@nqyne.co.uk, by next Friday. Usual rules apply.
