THE pleasingly alliterative four female fiddlers and four-part harmony folk singers Eliza Carthy, Bella Hardy, Lucy Farrell and Kate Young play Selby this weekend.
The quarter will be reviving old favourites and initiating brand new songs in a set built on rhythms in voices and bows.
Twice nominated for the Mercury Prize, Eliza has worked with Nick Cave, Paul Weller and Rufus Wainwright and is a regular on BBC radio and television, including multiple appearances on Later... with Jools Holland.
BBC Radio 2 Folk Award-winning Bella has a soaring voice that inhabits her characters as she spins her stories with both strength and sensitivity.
English songwriter Lucy is a double BBC Folk Award nominee, while Kate is Scotland’s rising folk pioneer, exploring traditional and world music.
Carthy, Hardy, Farrell & Young, Selby Town Hall, Saturday, 8pm. Tickets cost £15 in advance on 01757 708449 or online at selbytownhall.co.uk or £17 on the door from 7.30pm.
