HARROGATE International Festivals’ spring series of Sunday morning concerts welcomes the Navarra Quartet to the Old Swan Hotel, Harrogate on March 2.
The 11am programme features Mozart, Beethoven and a work by Latvian composer Peteris Vasks that the quartet’s 28-year-old Irish cellist Brian O’Kane describes as “incredible”.
“It depicts a whole variety of different sound worlds, from the machine-gun fire behind the wall dividing east and west Europe during Communism, to the last moments when we’re playing birdsong, with very cool special effects on the instruments,” he says.
“It’s different, which I hope will attract a new audience. We have a lot of energy and a lot of commitment in trying to say something new about the music. We’re a vibrant, dynamic, young quartet and we just hope to inspire the audience.”
• Tickets cost £17, concessions £15.50, on 01423 562303. For the full spring series programme, visit harrogateinternationalfestivals.com
