LEE “Scratch” Perry, Godfather of Dub, Grammy winner and one of the longest serving and most influential reggae artists of all time, is in the house tonight.
More precisely, he will be at Fibbers in York, along with the Irie Vibes Sound System.
“His last show here sold out, ‘nuff said. Don’t be left outside this time,” says Fibbers promoter Tim Hornsby.
To quote Perry, 78 next Thursday, “I’m an artist, a musician, a magician, a writer, a singer; I’m everything.
My name is Lee from the African jungle, originally from West Africa. I’m a man from somewhere else, but my origin is from Africa, straight to Jamaica through reincarnation; reborn in Jamaica.”
Tonight, Jamaica comes to York. “Arguably the first creatively driven ‘artistproducer’ in modern recorded music, Lee “Scratch” Perry occupies the highest level of music making,” says Tim.
“He stands comfortably next to pioneers like George Martin, Phil Spector and Brian Wilson.”
Show time is 8pm to 10.30pm.
