TADCASTER Theatre Company’s celebration of songs from the shows, Cabaret, will feature arrangements by York’s Man of the Musicals, Bev Jones.
The show will run from tonight to Saturday at the Riley Smith Hall, Tadcaster, at 7.30pm nightly plus a 2.30pm Saturday matinee that Bev will attend. He is now resident at Thistle Hill Nursing Home in Knaresborough.
The show’s highlights will include Bev’s arrangements of Shakalaka Baby, from Bombay Dreams, in a special version he wrote for Bradford Alhambra with authentic Indian costumes, and Corner Of The Sky from the rarely heard Pippin.
Bev’s Sing-a-long dance medley will be a mash-up of Is This The Way to Amarillo, Crocodile Rock, Hi-Ho Silver Lining and Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da and his arrangements will conclude with a Strictly Latin section.
Bev Jones’s wife, Lesley, and her daughter Adele have had to learn to speak in The Only Way Is Essex accents for one routine. “It’s been Well Jel, ’cos we is so professional!” says Lesley.
The format for each performance is relaxed with seating for four to ten people at round tables, a licensed bar and nibbles. Tickets are on sale at £10 and a special rate for tables or groups of four or more on 07748 812528 or on the door.
Meanwhile, the first Sing To Bev concert for Thistle Hill residents and relatives on March 6 was a resounding success, says Lesley. “So much so that I’m getting requests for tickets for the next show on April 13.”
The first show of Bev’s arrangements was sung by performers from 40 years of his productions.
