JOAN As Policewoman will play The Belgrave in Leeds on April 19 on her 12-date tour in support of her new album, The Classic.
“I’m in the best place I’ve ever been in my life,” says soul and torch singer Joan Wasser, reflecting on her fourth album of original material and her first since The Deep Field in 2011.
Wasser came to attention as a member of Antony Hegarty’s The Johnsons and Rufus Wainwright’s band, before releasing Real Life in 2006, followed by 2008’s To Survive, written in the aftermath of her mother’s death.
An interim covers album a year later, Cover, paved the way for a move away from melancholia on The Deep Field and now the blues have been beaten on the liberated The Classic.
