CANADIAN singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright returns to Pocklington tomorrow night, having played the Arts Centre in August 2013.

Born into the first family of American folk in New York, Martha is the daughter of singer-songwriters Loudon Wainwright III and the late Kate McGarrigle and sister of piano-playing, baroque-singing composer Rufus Wainwright.

Raised in Montreal, she spent her childhood immersed in music, often performed with her parents and has written songs from teenage days onwards in a style both intimate and daring. Since 2002, she she has released three full-length studio albums and assorted EPs.

Her last album was October 2012's Come Home To Mama, her first studio set for four years, which featured guest musicians Sean Lennon and Brad Albetta, Martha’s husband, on bass, Dirty Three’s Jim White on drums and Wilco’s Nels Cline on guitar.

Martha will perform solo in Pock, where she will be supported by Virginian singer-songwriter Erin McKeown, whose 2013 album, Manifestra, was a musical and political call to action and civic engagement.

Tickets cost £21 on 01759 301547 or pocklingtonartscentre.co.uk
