ALEC Dankworth's World Spirit Tour makes a visit to the National Centre for Early Music, York, on Wednesday.
Formed out of bassist Alec's love of music from the Iberian peninsula, World Spirit crosses the Straits of Gibraltar into Africa and beyond in a night of global song and improvisation.
Expect tunes by Duke Ellington, Bela Flek, Antonio-Carlos Jobim, Abdullah Ibrahim and WC Handy and music originating from Ireland, Venezuela, Bulgaria, South Africa, Mali and Brazil, when Alec is joined at 7.30pm by fellow Dankworth jazz dynasty member Emily Dankworth on vocals, Brandon Allen on saxophone and Winston Clifford on percussion.
In the past, Alec has worked with such musicians as Stephane Grappelli, Abdullah Ibrahim and Van Morrison and at present he is doing so with Ginger Baker. Tickets for his World Spirit concert cost £13, concessions £10, students £5, on 01904 658338 or at ncem.co.uk
