CAMDEN Town ska legends Madness are heading for the Leeds First Direct Arena with their new All For The M.A.D.H.E.A.D show on Thursday, December 11.
Let the Nutty Boys explain the premise behind their winter tour title...
“There is only one Madhead. It is about you. Above you, below you and within you. It is all around you. It is you. Inside the Madhead is all your thoughts. The Madhead can hear the music. The Madhead can feel the music. The Madhead must dance. The Madhead must sing. I are the Madhead. You are the Madhead. We are the Madhead.”
Is your mad head any the wiser? If not, here is what M.A.D.H.E.A.D stands for: M for Molecular; A, Ansible; D, Dynamic; H, Harmonic; E, Entanglement Distillator; A, Accelerator; D, Density Matrix. Hope that helps.
Ansible, by the way, is a fictional machine capable of instantaneous or super-luminal communication. Maybe there will be method in their Madness, but rest assured the tried-and-trusted formula of all the big hits will be applied as per usual. House Of Fun, Baggy Trousers, My Girl, Our House, It Must Be Love, Embarrassment, Driving In My Car, Michael Caine, Night Boat To Cairo et al.
Will there be fresh material too?
Hopefully, yes, after Madness locked themselves away in the studio making brand new music since last September’s Alexandra Palace show, in readiness for a follow-up to last year’s 10th studio album, Oui, Oui, Si, Si, Ja, Ja, Da, Da.
Madness last went nutty in Yorkshire in 2010 when they played York Racecourse in July and Sheffield O2 Academy, Hull Arena and Leeds O2 Academy that December. Now they will take their Madhead to 11 English, Scottish and Welsh dates on their first arena travels for more than a year, with Leeds being the Londoners’ only Yorkshire outing.
This month’s travels are accompanied by a cheery message from frontman Suggs. “I know when to go out, I know when to stay in and get things done,” he says. “Get your M.A.D.H.E.A.D on, we are going out!”
Doors open at 6.30pm for the 7.30pm start, when support act Scouting For Girls will be in action. Tickets cost £35 upwards on 0844 248 1585 or at firstdirectarena.com
