Only One Question for... Barnsley Christmas folk fairy Kate Rusby, whose winter tour of South Yorkshire – and Cornish – pub carols will visit York and Harrogate
YOU have made a tradition of playing South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire pub carols at Christmas, Kate, accompanied by your band and the "brass boys". Last year, there was an unexpected invasion from the Cornish canon of carols, so will there be further additions this winter too?
"Oh yes, the Cornish invasion will still be there as we all really loved playing that song last year. I have strong links to Cornwall and they have their own local carols that are sung in pubs, just like we do up here, so it's perfect really.
"It's nice to have another stash of carols to tap into, but don't tell them. I've been working on new songs for the Christmas tour, but we will have to do some of the favourites too like Sweet Bells too. I think there would be riots outside if we didn't. And that would be me starting it. I can't tell you just how lovely it is to hear audiences singing along to these South Yorkshire carols. It's such a special thing, I just adore it."
