Rhoda Dakar, from the 2Tone band The Bodysnatchers, will be the special guest when Skaville UK play Certificate 18, Gillygate, York, on Thursday. Ska authority and York Ska promoter Paul Williams is co-promoting the gig.
"Skaville UK are a mega UK ska superband consisting of Martin Stewart, Nick Welsh, Louis Alphonso and drummer Al Fletcher. Louis was in the original Bad Manners, Nick and Martin spent 15 years in the re-formed Selecter with Pauline Black, and Al has played with Lee Perry and Prince Buster, " he says.
"Even better is the news that the lovely Rhoda is making a guest appearance on the night. She had a hit with Let's Do Rock Steady with The Bodysnatchers in 1980, was a one-time member of The Special AKA and was responsible for one of the most controversial records ever to chart, The Boiler in 1982 - a song about a rape attack."
Skaville UK are on tour to promote a ska-soaked new album, 1973, released through Moon Ska World Records. Admission on Thursday is £6.
