PUNK veterans The Damned have sold out their Sunday afternoon show at Fibbers in York.

Founders of punk/goth, they were the first British punk act to release a single, New Rose, and album, Damned Damned Damned, and to tour the USA.

"Still with Dave Vanian and Captain Sensible in the line-up, it's still pure punk rock theatre cum garage, and just as importantly they made some great tunes, " says Fibbers boss Tim Hornsby.

The Damned are playing Fibbers as part of an exclusive run of small club gigs, supported by Eva Braun And The Ghouls. Doors open at 2pm; The Damned are on stage at 4pm.

Little known rock fact: It was at Fibbers that Captain Sensible met his wife.

The Damned are not the only rock stars with long service medals who are booked into Fibbers.

Wilko Johnson, once of Dr Feelgood and Ian Dury & The Blockheads, is playing there on Saturday. Incidentally, he wrote the famous three-note bass riff for Frankie Goes To Hollywood's oncebanned chart topper Relax.

Miles Hunt, leader of The Wonder Stuff, will be joined by violinist Erica Nockalls for a solo outing on Thursday. "I think the thing that I'm most proud of is that I haven't had to get a job, " he says.

"This year I'll have been a professional musician for 21 years, so getting away with it is what I'm most proud of."
