AMERICAN crooner Tony Bennett honours his 92nd birthday with a collaborative album with Diana Krall, Love Is Here To Stay, released on Verve Records on September 14.
Bennett and Krall have been friends for more than 20 years, touring together in 2000 and recording duets for two Bennett’s albums, Duets and Playin’ With My Friends, but this marks their first full album project together.
Love Is Here To Stay celebrates the songbook of George and Ira Gershwin, just in time for the 120th anniversary of George Gershwin’s birthday on September 26.
The album was recorded with the Grammy award-winning Bill Charlap Trio and the result is a sophisticated, beautifully rendered love letter to the Gershwins’ music, featuring Bill Charlap on piano, Peter Washington on bass and Kenny Washington on drums.
Duet tracks include Love Is Here To Stay, S’Wonderful, They Can’t Take That Away From Me, My One And Only, I’ve Got A Crush On You and Fascinating Rhythm, a song with a significant place in Bennett's career path as his first physical recording, made under his then stage name, Joe Bari.
The track listing is completed by Krall's solo, But Not For Me, Nice Work If You Can Get It, I Got Rhythm, Somebody Loves Me, Do It Again and a Bennett solo, Who Cares?.
