MEGAFAUN are the band built by brothers Brad and Phil Cook and fellow Wisconsin native Joe Westerlund from the ashes of DeYarmond Edison, the group they had formed with long-time friend Justin Vernon.
Vernon went off to live the wild life in a log cabin, from where he emerged with the stark songs for Bon Iver’s cult album, For Emma, Forever.
Megafaun have gone on to make two albums of their own, the second of them, Gather, Form & Fly, being issued this year on the Crammed label as their first British release.
“More radical than former band mate Bon Iver, more adventurous and much more impressively bearded than Fleet Foxes, Megafaun are an exhilarating trio from Durham, North Carolina, who’ve somehow managed to fuse alt.country and folk with psychedelic bluegrass, Steve Reich experimentation and gorgeous three-part harmonies reminiscent of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, The Beach Boys and The Flying Burrito Brothers,” says Band Room promoter Nigel Burnham, who has booked the hirsute trio for a 7.30pm show tonight.
