DEVOTEES of cutting-edge music are spoiled for choice this weekend in York, where the NCEM Jazz Weekend will vie for attention with the York Late Music Concert Series Core May weekend at the Unitarian Chapel, St Saviourgate.
In tonight’s piano recital at 7.30pm, Richard Casey plays works by George Crumb and John Adams, along with festival director Steve Crowther’s Piano Sonata No 1 and Harrison Birtwistle’s Harrison’s Clocks.
The focus switches to electro-acoustic music tomorrow, when four young musicians perform works for solo instruments and electronics by living composers from all over the world. Jonathan Sage’s 1pm recital on clarinet and electronics will be followed by a free discussion chaired by composer and concert co-ordinator Alex Harker at 2.15pm.
Gavin Osborn, flutes and electronics, performs at 7pm, and Enrico Bertelli and Radoslaw Rudnick’s 8.30pm concert ends with a unique performance of Terry Riley’s In C for flute, clarinet, percussion and live electronics.
On Sunday, Jane Chapman presents Wired, a 7.30pm programme of harpsichord and electronic music featuring works by Gyorgy Ligeti and James Dillon.
