THE York Spring Festival of New Music brings music that is both new in its conception and new to the area.
From jazz to classical, the varied programme is designed to foster creativity, while appealing to a wide audience.
This year’s programme brings some highly acclaimed performers to the city, as well as showcasing the wealth of local talent, with artists ranging from the renowned young Elysian Quartet to Yorkshire-based contemporary music group Black Hair and student jazz project Timecraft.
This is the second year in which the festival is being run by a student committee, who bring a fresh approach, diverse experience, and lots of ambition to the programme.
The committee strives to bring in a new audience, with events at venues throughout the city, taking new music into Kennedy's Basement Bar, the National Centre for Early Music, City Screen Basement and St. Helen’s Church, as well as the traditional Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall.
