Can you tell from the chilled-out tones of Terrorvision frontman Tony Wright’s lesser-known band that it was dreamt up by dry-stone wallers on a Yorkshire moor?

Or that Tony was taking a break from his music career to labour in the bleak moorland before meeting joiner Paddy, his brother Sim and Parry, who could help him turn his new style into reality?

Actually, no. Diehard Terrorvision fans were not disappointed.

Laika Dog, named after the Russian space dog Laika, is pure rock’n’roll. In Tony’s words less “boombastic” than Terrorvision.

But that doesn’t mean that there’s any less energy put into the performance.

Laika Dog rocked the Stereo’s intimate crowd of 60 people as hard as the hundreds at Sheffield Arena with Terrorvision last December.

“As long as you know what you’re singing about you’re fine,” he says.

“If you sing drivel about love and castles and have to smile when you’re not happy, then you have to worry because you’re not genuine.”

Previous sell-out gigs in York make Tony keen to come back again and again and show off more of his newly-released album 2010, and we’ll be seeing more of him this year when he releases the latest Terrorvision album too.
