John Craig Innes, The People’s Tenor from Scotland, is to play the Grand Opera House, York, on October 3.

His powerful and emotive voice has made him a favourite performer at major sporting events where he has sung with Katherine Jenkins before crowds of up to 70,000, and he has brought operatic arias to the city centre streets and shopping malls too. Along the way, he has raised more than £50,000 for assorted charities.

This autumn he returns to Britain’s concert halls on a tour to benefit the Help for Heroes charity.

He will be joined by his orchestra or a military band (or maybe both), plus his brother, big band singer Moray Innes, and York soprano Rebecca Newman. Rebecca’s singing has gone from strength to strength, especially in the past year.

She is enjoying working on her classical repertoire, but also has started developing her jazz repertoire and is keen to work on some composing projects, particularly using her soprano range.

She has provided vocals for a hip-hop album to be released early next year and is regularly involved in events on campus singing with Fenna Rhodes and resident rappers.

Next year too she hopes to compile a CD accompanying herself on the harp.

Tickets for the 7.30pm concert on October 3 can be booked on 0844 847 2322 or online at grandoperahouseyork.org.uk
