ALESSI’S Ark, Rachael Dadd, The Hand and Ichi make up the four-handed line-up at The Band Room, Low Mill, Farndale, near Kirkbymoorside, tonight at 7.30pm.

“We were looking for a dream double bill, but got a quadruple one instead,” says promoter Nigel Burnham. “Psychedelic folkster Alessi’s Ark, aka Alessi Laurent-Marke, has already made her mark with a stunning debut album, Notes From The Treehouse, with help from Bright Eyes’ Mike Mogis and Nate Walcott. Earlier this year I saw her touring with Laura Marling at the Grand Opera House in York and she’s every bit in the same class.”

Rachael Dadd excites him too. “While you could easily file Alessi’s cosmic madrigals alongside Bat For Lashes, Joanna Newsom, Bjork and Syd Barrett, in contrast, Rachael’s hauntingly beautiful experimental folk reminds us of Sandy Denny singing Midlake, Espers and The Decemberists…in the time of Thomas Hardy,” says Nigel.

The Hand and Ichi both contribute “extraordinary world/folk” to tonight’s fare. Tickets can be booked on 01751 432201 or online at thebandroom.co.uk; Phone the same number to check for availability on the door.
