Miles Kane, former frontman of The Rascals and the other half of the Last Shadow Puppets to Arctic Monkey Alex Turner, will release his debut solo album on Monday.
As a foretaste of what lies in store on Colour Of The Trap, you can hear Kane and his new band perform the songs the night before in York at The Duchess.
Issued by Columbia Records, the album was recorded in glamorous Streatham with Hot Chip producer Dan Carey and in golden San Francisco with Gorillaz and Kasabian collaborator Dan The Automator.
The 12 tracks explore the darker corners of vintage pop, psych and blue-eyed soul sounds, Kane’s love songs encompassing the sleazy and the seductive, the fragile and the heartfelt.
The Wirral singer and songwriter linked up with Last Shadow Puppets’ sparring partner Turner for one number, the aptly named Telepathy, while Super Furry Animals’ Gruff Rhys provided backing vocals throughout the album and co-wrote the turbulent blues of Kingcrawler. Noel Gallagher helped out with harmonies on My Fantasy and French actress Clémence Poésy, from In Bruges, added to the psychedelic romance of Happenstance.
Kane will be joined on his May tour by The Sand Band’s Jay Sharrock on drums, singer-songwriter Eugene McGuinness on rhythm guitar and Cherry Ghost’s Ben Parsons and Phil Anderson on keyboards and bass guitar.
• Sunday’s tickets cost £9 on 0844 477 1000 or £11 on the door from 7.30pm.
