JAZZ pianist Dave Newton is relishing the freedom of playing in a trio with bassist Andrew Cleyndert and drummer Steve Brown, as heard on his new album Portrait Of A Woman on the BrightNewDay label.
On Saturday they present their Portrait at the National Centre for Early Music, York, in a 7.30pm concert, for which tickets are still available on 01904 658338 or online at ncem.co.uk
Newton has been voted best jazz pianist for nine years running in the British Jazz Awards and combines his own pursuits with his accompanist skills for singers Carol Kidd, Tina May, Claire Martin and Stacey Kent. He wrote music for Martin Taylor and Alan Barnes and his haunting themes can be heard on American movies.
