Copmanthorpe Carnival has assembled its biggest ever line-up of live music, dance and circus entertainment for tomorrow at Copmanthorpe Recreation Centre, Barons Crescent, Copmanthorpe York.
In past years, North Yorkshire’s chart acts One Night Only and Elliot Minor have played at the event; this time the bands will be Oceans, The Pauper Kings, Dorien Starre, The Buccaneers, The Fear and The Bon Bonz.
Look out too for performances from 2009 Britain’s Got Talent finalists The Afrikan Warriors, plus Limelight Dance, The Dance Factory, Chechelele World Music Choir, Lisa Marie School of Dance and The York Jugglers.
Global York’s youth workers are hosting the children’s activities for the second year running, including York’s first football cage, wherein youngsters can do battle with their football skills, competing two on two in an enclosed arena.
Games with sumo suits and a giant inflatable human table football table are promised too, along with the all-day Kids Zone entertainment featuring crafts, face painting and balloon modelling.
Copmanthorpe Carnival’s general event theme for 2011 is the circus. Circus entertainment will be happening on stage and through the crowds, including juggling workshops, stilt walkers, clowns and acrobats.
Further attractions will be Zorbing, water walkers, a giant assault course, a fairground with stalls, the Snozone snowboard simulator, a climbing wall and Kiddy Karts.
Refreshments will be provided in the Fairtrade Tea Tent, as the carnival works towards gaining Fairtrade status for the refreshment area by providing Fairtrade tea, coffee and cakes at tomorrow’s event.
Additionally, there will be a barbecue of local produce, a Spiffing Pimms tent, a strawberry and cream fair, real lemonade, milkshake and popcorn stands and licensed indoor and outdoor bars. Everything from cup cakes to clothes will be on sale at the shopping stalls.
The carnival runs from noon to 6pm. Entry is £3 in advance from any Copmanthorpe store or online at copmanthorpe.org.uk/carnival or £5 on the gate. Admission for accompanied under-14s is free.
