University of York student Masumi Yamamoto and Takako Minami perform Music For Two Harpsichords at the newly restored St Chad’s Church, Campleshon Road, York, tomorrow night.
Two harpsichords of matching quality for tone are being brought up to York from London for the Japanese duo’s 7.30pm programme of works by J S Bach, Couperin, Krebs and Le Roux.
“This is a unique opportunity to hear rarely performed masterpieces for two harpsichords in York,” says Jill Shepherd, one of the concert organisers.
Masumi and Takako are solo harpsichord players in their own right, but they came together for the first time last year for a concert at St George’s, Bristol, and this year they are making their London and York debuts.
Masumi was a prize winner at the International Harpsichord Comp in Bruges in 2007, when she was the first Japanese harpsichord player to reach the finals in 21 years. At present she is pursuing her doctoral studies at the University of York.
Takako, who studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, performs in Europe and Japan and released her first solo CD, Takako’s Music Room, in 2009.
Tickets cost £8, concessions £5, students £3, on 01904 424411 or on the door.
