BRIT Award winner Laura Marling, the darling of new folk, will play York Minster on October 21 on her autumn travels to Britain’s best-loved cathedrals.
Tickets go on sale at £20 at 9am today for the When The Bell Tolls Tour, when Laura will showcase her third album, A Creature I Don’t Know.
Produced by Ethan Johns, it will be released on September 12 as the follow-up to 2010’s Mercury Music Prize-nominated I Speak Because I Can. Her debut, 2008’s Alas I Cannot Swim, was Mercury short-listed too and this year Laura won the Best British Female Solo Artist prize at the BRIT Awards and best solo artist at the NME awards.
This summer she premiered songs from the new album at a handful of festivals, including Glastonbury, Green Man and The End Of The Road Festival. Her October tour will take in ten churches, including Sheffield Cathedral on October 22, and a London date at Central Hall, Westminster, on October 26.
Laura last played York in April 2010 at the Grand Opera House. On her previous visit, at the age of 17 in September 2007, she suffered a panic attack while performing with support act Noah And The Whale and never returned to the Fibbers stage for her headline set.
