The View are on fire. So went the chant from the influx of fans that swarmed to the front of the stage at The Duchess on Thursday night.
Playing in front of an intimate crowd, the Dundee-based band previewed their fourth album Cheeky For A Reason and provided an energetic entertaining set.
The enticed crowd were magnetised by the electricity of the band as their scruffy ska-punk illuminated the dark basement.
The crowd buzzed to the dynamism of their eclectic mix of tracks embracing the unique voice of lead singer/guitarist Kyle Falconer and the topless eccentricity of drummer Steven Morrison.
After setting the UK album charts alight with their first album release Hats off to the Buskers, the band’s sales declined in two subsequent album releases, leading to their change of record label.
Falconer describes their new album as “Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours done by The Clash”. And from the evidence of new single, How Long, played mid-way through their set the band are preparing an assault on success once again.
It features all the positive aspects of personal favourite, Same Jeans, and its edgy feel rocked the bustling Duchess into frenzy.
It certainly contains enough of a catchy emphasis to be a rewarding success for them in their new partnership with label Cooking Vinel.
The band also delighted the crowd with other newly written tracks with AB (We Need Treatment), Bunker (Solid Ground) and Anfield Row all standing out as perfect matches with their fans.
Album Cheeky For A Reason and single How Long will be released on Monday, July 9.
