NEXT Friday is sure to be emotional for choral directors Jay and Andrea Commins because it will mark the end of an era for the husband-and-wife team.
After running the award-winning children’s, youth and senior choirs from Sing @ Selby Music Centre for the past 13 years, they will hand over the reins after the 7pm performance of their musical revue, Opening Night, at Joseph Rowntree Theatre.
Run as part of the North Yorkshire County Council Music Service, the choirs feature singers aged four to 18, who will present songs and medleys from Les Miserables, Hairspray, Annie, Wicked. Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Jungle Book, Rent and Sister Act next Friday.
“This is set to be an absolutely fantastic show,” says musical director Andrea Commins.
“The choirs performed medleys from Les Mis and Annie at the national Music for Youth Festival and received excellent reviews, so now adding costumes and dancing to these numbers, alongside songs from many other musicals, it promises to be a wonderful night of entertainment in York for people of all ages.
“Opening Night will be a real show choir experience, so if you love Glee, come along and see our home-grown talent for yourself.”
Tickets are on sale exclusively online at singchoirs.org.uk at £7 for the stalls, £6 for the balcony. All proceeds will go to Friends of Selby Music Centre.
