As a fan of Strictly Come Dancing, and missing it not being shown at the moment, I was very much looking forward to an evening of dance.
The fabulous Dave Arch and the Strictly House Band (and the pork pie hat!) were on stage throughout, leaving a dance area that didn’t look quite spacious enough for the dancers, but they managed.
The singers, including the charismatic and versatile Tommy Blaize, Tori Beaumont, Lance Ellington and Andrea Grant, demonstrated their talents with ease through a range of songs from The Blues Brothers to Chicago.
Highlights were Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Think and I’ll Be There. Boogie Wonderland had most of the audience on their feet dancing.
The dancers – Artem Chigvintsev, Kristina Rihanoff and Robin Windsor – all professional dancers on Strictly Come Dancing, danced some excellent choreography with elegance and style.
Kristina and Robin stole the show with many moments including their heartfelt American Smooth, a fluid Rumba and a beautiful splits lift. Artem’s Swan Lake routine reminded us of his choreographic talents.
The celebrity winner from Strictly 2010, who won our hearts and votes, Kara Tointon, was not in the same league as the professionals, but I admire anyone brave enough to perform on stage with some of the best dancers in the business.
She looked fantastic and her armlines and demi-pointe work were pleasing to the eye. The costumes were suitably sparkly.
I would have liked to have seen more dance numbers included. Maybe having another couple performing would have made this possible as I left wanting to see more.
