JUST a final reminder that tonight’s Will Young concert and tomorrow’s Plan B show at Dalby Forest, near Pickering, have both sold out.
The Forestry Commission’s plan A for both days is in place as 5,000 people per night prepare to arrive at Dalby.
The forest will be closed to the general public on both days from 4pm. Arena gates open for the concerts at 6pm; extensive bar and catering facilities will be provided, along with free car parking.
Tonight’s support act, singer-songwriter Nerina Pallot, will be on stage at 7.40pm, followed by Young from 9pm to 10.40pm. Tomorrow’s running order will be Ny at 7.10pm, Kwabs at 7.40pm and Plan B from 9pm to 10.30pm.
Pop Idol 2002 winner Will Young is to release the electro-funk I Just Want A Lover on July 9 as the fourth single from his Echoes album.
Looking further ahead, Will has signed up to make his musical theatre debut as Emcee in Rufus Norris’s re-imagining of his double Olivier Award-winning production of Cabaret, first in an exclusive four-week tour to Southampton, Nottingham, Norwich and Salford Quays, and then in London’s West End at the Savoy Theatre from October 3, with Michelle Ryan as Sally Bowles.
Singer-songwriter Will has appeared alongside Dame Judi Dench in the film Mrs Henderson Presents and made his professional theatre debut in Noel Coward’s The Vortex at the Manchester Royal Hall, and he is keenly awaiting his Emcee duties.
“I’m very excited about the challenge of choosing Cabaret as my first musical theatre role,” he says, as he looks forward to working with Norris and choreographer Javier de Frutos.
“Emcee is a part I’ve wanted to play since before I started training at Arts Education when I first moved to London.
“I’ve spent the last ten years, singing, dancing and acting, all separately. For the first time I’ll get to do all three in one show. How could I not be excited? After the success of my latest album, it feels like the perfect time to step back from pop for six months and take on the challenge of story telling in another form – and what a story to tell.”
Meanwhile, Plan B’s Ben Drew has confirmed his new single will be Lost My Way, out on Monday, two days after his Dalby date.
His new album, iLL Manors, will follow on July 16 on the 679/Atlantic Records label, produced by Jay-Z and Lana Del Rey producer Al Shux.
Earlier this month, polymath Ben made his directorial debut with his feature film iLL Manors and in September he will be starring in a film remake of The Sweeney with Ray Winstone.
In the meantime, the North Yorkshire woodland awaits. As ever, concert proceeds from this weekend’s Forestry Commission Live Music shows will help care for woodlands in Yorkshire and the Tees Valley.
Please note, bring outdoor clothing and a torch. No glass, cans, umbrellas, tables, tents or gazebos are permitted. A one-way system will operate for traffic in the forest.
