Kelly Osbourne has opened up about her split from fiance Matthew Mosshart, insisting it was "a mutual decision".

The Fashion Police star and chef Matthew confirmed this week that they had broken up after two years together, but Kelly told E! News the pair are still close.

"It was a mutual decision," said the 29-year-old. "We love each other very much. It just wasn't the right time for us, and I think if we weren't as mature and adult as we are, then we could have gone down a road that wasn't really nice."

Kelly went on: "We're still really, really good friends; it's just we're not living in the same house. There's no dramatic story. I wish there was so I had something to tell people but no... it just happens in life."

Kelly and Matthew, the brother of The Kills rocker Alison Mosshart, met in 2011 at Kate Moss's wedding to Jamie Hince.

They got engaged after Matthew, 29, got down on one knee during their holiday last summer on the Caribbean island of Anguilla.

Kelly's mum Sharon has also addressed the break up, saying Matthew is "a lovely guy" and that the couple had a great two years together.

"Engagements are a test run, aren't they?" she said on her chat show The Talk. "And so it didn't work for whatever reason but they are still good friends and will continue to be. It's just not right for them right now.

"So - let the auditions begin!"
