Matt Berry gave a firm “f*** that” when asked if he had considered putting himself forward for The X Factor voiceover job.
When Peter Dickson, the bombastic voice of The X Factor’s live shows, announced in July that he was leaving after 11 years, fans were understandably bereft.
However, others pointed to Matt as a possible replacement.
The star of Channel 4 comedy Toast Of London is also much in demand for voice work, a trait he shares with his comic creation Steven Toast.
Matt’s work includes voicing George the Volcano in Volvic Mineral Water’s campaign, Muller Corner ads and commercials for The Natural Confectionery Company.
Asked about X Factor’s vacancy, he told Digital Spy: “I think it was bandied about, but I never got involved in any of that.
“I wouldn’t have considered it. I’ve never seen the show, but it’s not the kind of thing I watch or would be interested in.”
When told he would probably have to record for the show every week, he added: “Is that the case? Oh, f*** that.”
Producers convinced Peter to return and he’s back voicing the live shows.
The third series of Toast of London continues to focus around pompous actor Steven Toast.
It will boast some big names – and they don’t come much bigger than Mad Men star Jon Hamm.
The Emmy award winner is apparently a fan of the show and agreed to appear after being asked.
British veteran actor Brian Blessed will also appear as Steven’s dad. Toast Of London also stars Doon Mackichan and Robert Bathurst.
Toast of London is broadcast on Wednesday November 18 at 10pm.
