ALADDIN And The Twankeys will be the next York Theatre Royal pantomime.
Dame Berwick Kaler announced the show title from the stage on the last night of Robin Hood And His Merry Mam! last Saturday, when ticket sales for the 70 performance again passed the 50,000 mark.
This will be the fifth time that Berwick, dame, writer and co-director, has appeared in Aladdin in his 35 pantomime years in York, following on from The Lad Aladdin in 2005 and previous productions in 1997, 1989 and 1981.
“Berwick rather likes playing Widow Twankey,” says Abbigail Wright, the Theatre Royal’s head of communications.
“The title Aladdin And The Twankeys received rapturous applause from a full house and we look forward to getting the show on sale on March 1.”
Tickets can be bought in person from the St Leonard’s Place box office from 9am that day and on the phone on 01904 623568 and online at yorktheatreroyal.co.uk from 9am on March 2.
