THE Yamato Drummers from Japan bring their new show, Rojyoh: The Beat On The Road, to the Grand Opera House, York, on Tuesday, as part of their 20th anniversary world tour.
Founded in1993 by artistic director Masa Ogawa in Yamato – now known as Nara – the company has showcased Japanese Taiko drumming in 50 countries and last visited Britain in 2008.
The energetic Yamato Drummers play Wadaiko drums that range from the size of a plate to more than a metre in diameter, including the Odaiko drum, hewn from a huge tree more than 400 years old.
The drumming combines physical strength and movement with music of delicate beauty and heart-thumping bass power.
Tickets for the 7.30pm show are available on 0844 871 3024 or atgtickets.com/york.
