DEMENTIA has become the new taboo subject after cancer, says The Real People Theatre Company.
As part of York International Women’s Week 2013, the York company will look at how we are dealing with the rising tide of this mental illness in Dementia & Me.
“People are finding ways of living with dementia to the best of their ability day by day and it’s this resourcefulness and creativity that we need to tap into within ourselves,” said festival director and Real People producer Sue Lister.
Through sharing the inner thoughts and feelings of a mother and daughter, Real People will explore ways of coping and invite audience reflection and feedback.
“Poetry, story, music, art and individual creativity of all kinds offer a way forward,” said Sue.
Dementia & Me will be performed at the Old Chapel Theatre, Quad South Hall, York St John University, on Monday (March 4) and Tuesday and in the Bedingfield Room, Bar Convent, York, on Friday. Shows start at 7pm and tickets for the first two will be available on the door; tickets for night three on 01904 643238.
